As I said last time, you sign up with a company, they give you a unique link, and you give that link to people interested in the product, if they buy it for 20 dollars, the company gets 18 dollars, the person gets the product, and you 2 dollars.
And as I also said, there is a better way.
The better way
The best way to do that is rather than send a person directly to the product with your link, you send them to a landing page first.
A landing page is also called a squeeze page, an optin page, a bridge page, and a few other terms (there are technically some differences, but they are pretty much used interchangeably).
The way this works is you give the person your unique link, the person goes to a page where they enter their email address, then that page sends them to the product.
If they buy the product, you get some of the money, same as before, except now you have a list of people.
Why do this?
You build up an email list of people who are interested in that type of product.
For example, if the product is a hedge trimmer, then you have a list of people who you know are interested in things like gardening, landscaping, and yard work.
So you would send them a few emails about the hedge trimmer, and this gets people who didn’t buy right away a few more reminders because let’s face it, not everyone is going to buy right away.
Statistics show that if you do this follow-up that sales increase which means you get more money.
You can then also email them with other offers that would go along with the hedge trimmers.
And that, my friend, is the better way.
In conclusion
To recap, you send people to a squeeze page, they put in their email address, then they go to the product. If they buy right then, you get some of the money. You send them a few emails about the product in case they didn’t buy, and then you send them emails about other related products and services.
As I said, this is probably what you’ve run into before, there’s nothing new about it, and most people talking about affiliate marketing show you this model.
The most important parts are traffic and conversions, but I’ll save that for another time.
